Women Greening the Globe – see the documentary “Arise.” the documentary that inspired the symposium. Its stories of 13 impassioned, 20-to-80 year-old women, working to heal environmental injustices inspired the Greening the Globe symposium. One screening is at 6 p.m. Friday, March 20, at the College of Staten Island and Saturday, March 21, at the Conference House. FREE EVENT

Protectors of Pine Oak Woods Semi-annual Spring Meeting, 40 Years and counting (1975–2015)–Join with Protectors of Pine Oak Woods as we celebrate four decades of successful environmental preservation. Visit with those responsible for the formation of Blue Heron Park, Wood Duck Pond, the Graniteville Quarry and more. Discussions will focus on the various strategies employed to preserve each unique property. Light refreshments will be served before a brief walk through Blue Heron Park. The semi-annual meeting will be held at the Blue Heron Park Nature Center located at 222 Poillon Avenue.

Thursday, March 26,  7 p.m. Councilwoman Debi Rose Celebrates Women in History Month This year Councilwoman Debi Rose has chosen to honor women who are exemplars for us all. The event will include the presentation of the Margie Garvin Community Service Award, awarded to Ilean Dixon.   2015 Honorees include Barbara Sanchez, Sherili Allen, Heather Butts, Kathy Romanelli, Josephine Marino, Officer Quania Rios, Officer Michele Mazza, Beverly Neuhaus, Susan Fowler They each are focused on working to enrich our community in some very specific ways: beautification, community engagement and hunger. The event will take place on Thursday, March 26th at the Unitarian Church of Staten Island, 312 Fillmore St. at 7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public RSVP  718.556.7370

Sunday, March 29, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Fundraiser for Vincent Gentile hosted by Sanjay and Charlotte.
Charlotte and Sanjay invite  you to their home to celebrate and support Vincent Gentile who is running in the special election for US Congressman (the seat previously held by Michael Grimm). Sunday, April 12, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Committee to Save Mount Manresa will be honored The Preservation League of Staten Island will be honoring the Committee to Save Mount Manresa for their heroic efforts during the past years. The event includes lunch and a slide show. It will be at the Noble Maritime Collection on Sunday, April 12 from 1 to 3 P.M. Tickets are $20 per person.  RSVP to info@preservestatenisland.org

Our friends at the Half Table Man Organization has been feeding and helping families devastated by Superstorm Sandy and other local disasters. This first annual fundraiser which includes dinner and entertainment allows this group to continue their efforts.
