Important dates and Updates

A few updates and upcoming events of interest:

We are still petitioning to Landmark St. Mary’s church in Rosebank. St. Mary’s could face demolition if the Archdiocese of New York decides to sell the property. St. Mary’s R.C. Church is an architectural focal point in Rosebank, with its prominent tower visible for miles around. Countless thousands of Staten Islanders share personal memories, from family baptisms  and weddings to funerals. The Archdiocese of New York closed the church in 2015.  Let’s landmark and protect it from hasty destruction as was done to Mount Manresa.   Please sign this petition http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/landmark-st-mary-church?source=s.icn.em.cr&mailing_id=37425&%3Br_by=7799869&%3B%3Br_by=7954572&r_by=9417713&%3Bsource=s.icn.em.cr

The Committee to Save Mount Manresa wants to hear why City Planning is refusing Community Board 1’s  contextual rezoning application #P2014R0310 – CB1 Application – Rosebank / Fort Wadsworth / Clifton Rezoning.  This rezoning is to protect the character of our neighborhood and prevent unreasonable overdevelopment where one house is torn down and replaced by six or seven townhouses. At the technical review meeting in NYC with City Planning officials, the plan was reviewed and we were told they would work with our land use expert.  No meeting has been scheduled, despite multiple requests.  This is unacceptable and should be challenged.

We also want to urge the Mayor to support BP Oddo’s request to the BSA to require ULURP process in order for any development to occur at Mount Manresa.  Its important that any development on this site is on mapped city streets and not private roads.
