Write to the Politicians!

Here’s a sample letter you can cut and paste and send to politicians to request help to Save Mount Manresa.  Send to EVERYONE and anyone you can think of.  The more we do to get attention to this matter, the better.

Subject:  Please save Mount Manresa property and historical landmarks from developers.

I am writing to let you know that I oppose the development of 15 beautiful acres of Mount Manresa property on Staten Island. The property which has been a haven for the community, has been sold and now is in danger of being destroyed by developers.

I appreciate that you and your staff are concerned about the residents of my community and I am writing to appeal for your help in protecting this beautiful 15 acres of property located on Fingerboard Road in Staten Island.  The neighborhood and community would benefit from this becoming a park, rather than another overcrowded section of townhouses.

Mount Manresa is a ecological treasure for our neighborhood and all Staten Island. The buildings on the property are of historical value (this is the 1st Retreat House in US), but the  area is zoned for townhouse development.  We need your help to save it before it is gone for good.

  • The hills of Mount Manresa were formed 20,000 years ago during the last ice age.
  • The natural landscape of Mount Manresa contains very old rare Oak and Tulip Trees that have grown to great heights.
  • The beautiful steep hillside facing the north contain a rare concentration  of very tall old trees and Many Wild animals (reptiles, amphibians, birds and mammals) find refuge in this rural oasis.
  • A cherished grotto is built on the property and a very rare 19th Century brick tower stands on the property.
  • Mount Manresa Retreat house was founded by the Jesuits in 1911 and is the oldest retreat in America.  Over 15,000 people visited this location every year.

Let me close by restating that  we need your help to save our environment, community and Staten Island history.  We look for your support in saving this land from developers before it is too late.

The neighborhood and community would benefit from Mount Manresa becoming a park for all the public to enjoy.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
