Save Manresa Update: Community Events

Thanks to those who were able to participate with us this past weekend at the Verizon picket line.   We had a nice turnout even in the rain and it meant a lot to the workers who are currently striking for a fair contract.  The unions have supported our rallies for Mount Manresa.  This was our way of saying thank you.
On Thursday May 5, 2016 CWA Local 1102 is organizing a community day of action from 5-7 pm at Verizon (2791 Richmond Ave, Staten Island, NY).  Please come if you are available to join.

Subject: Media Alert: Community Action for Verizon Workers – Thursday May 6 from 5-7pm

STATEN ISLAND – On Thursday May 5, 2016 the The Committee to Save Manresa members will join CWA Local 1102 from 5-7 pm at Verizon (2791 Richmond Ave, Staten Island, NY) for a organized community day of action.

“Supporting the union workers on strike employed by Verizon is very important because upper Management is eroding the quality of life of their highly skilled workforce.” says Committee to Save Mount Manresa President Jack Bolembach

“The value of salaries, benefits and work conditions must be maintained for the workers. They provide the many complex technical services enabling the company to survive and remain competitive. Any attempt to diminish these dedicated union workers rights and benefits adversely affects our society in the long run. Verizon is very competitive and profitable so why hurt your workers for more profit?” explains Bolembach.

“The Committee to Save Mount Manresa has been fighting quality of life issues on Staten Island for over 3 years!” says Committee Secretary Barbara Sanchez.

“These Verizon workers need our support for a fair contract that protects their jobs, medical benefits and future.  They are fighting greed too. What happens with this contract will have a ripple effect across the country.  We support them in their fight.”
Sunday, May 1, 2016   members of The Committee to Save Mount Manresa, Peace Action and WBAI Radio joined the Verizon Workers picket line in the rain at the Verizon Store in New Dorp. (Photos below).

The Committee to Save Mount Manresa encourages other Staten Island community organizations will join this event, or adopt another Verizon store and sponsor their own day of action through the local union CWA office.

“We know what it is like to fight corporate greed.  The Savo Brothers exposed our community to asbestos for greed, they destroyed beautiful historical old growth trees for greed and they plan to destroy an entire neighborhood with 250 townhouses for greed. “
